We left Jacksonville on Sunday, June 17th and drove all day to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nothing really special about this drive....we just drove. But we did stop in Mississippi to eat at "The Shed"...it's a barbeque place that is literally in a shed. Amazing barbeque, very interesting ambiance. haha.
The next morning we left Baton Rouge bright and early so that we could arrive in Houston, Texas by lunch time. My mom was there visiting Frank again (while he was receiving treatment for leukemia) and the plan was to meet them at a Mexican place for lunch. We made great time and got there soon enough to eat and visit the zoo again. This time we didn't see all of the animals, we just rode the miniature locomotive. Wyatt was beyond thrilled--his obsession with trains only grows stronger by the day. We also had dinner later that night with one of Frank's co-workers, Ms. Jean, who stopped through town to check in on him.
Day three we drove to Fort Stockton, Texas...
Day four we drove to Phoenix, Arizona but made a stop first...or should I say we made a detour...at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. It's just what it sounds like...miles of white sand in the middle of nowhere. It is pretty amazing though. It looks like God just dumped it there.
Day five we drove from Phoenix all the way home to good ol Lemoore, California. At lunch time we stopped off near Palm Springs for some McDonalds and some shopping for mommy. It was speed shopping...I was in and out of that outlet mall in less than 30 minutes. I had three stores I wanted to breeze through, one of which was Tory Burch. Got myself some super cute sandals (for my ensuing birthday)....so it was a fantastic pit stop.
We got home that night and I have never been happier to be in Lemoore. After a drive like that, you'd be happy to be anywhere but on the inside of a car.
